Open Trackbacks - Quit While You’re Ahead Edition

Open Trackbacks

This morning the Man of the House backed his company van out of the driveway so we could drive the car to church. He was distracted by the moving van backing in next door, and consequently backed into the car parked at the end of our driveway on the other side of the street.

He acknowledged to the neighbors that it was his fault, called our insurance company in their presence and acknowledged it was his fault to them, and apologized profusely to everybody. Then he came back in to call his boss to let him know that there was no damage to the company van, but he’d hit a parked car with it. The neighbor was stressed because she said her insurance company was going to raise her rates if they found out about this event. I can’t figure that out, after all, it was completely our fault, right? He backed into a parked car. Just as we collected ourselves and were about to walk out the door to go to church - 30 minutes late - the doorbell rang.

Officer Friendly had been summoned by our neighbor to take a report - and while he was here, decided to issue some tickets. My husband accepted his with grace - again, he admitted his fault. The neighbor had a rude shock when she received a ticket - for parking at the end of our driveway. Now our insurance company may claim she’s responsible for part of the damages.

Moral of the story: When someone apologizes and agrees to make restitution, say “thank you,” accept it, and quit while you’re ahead.

    Karma.

If you answer a good deed with a negative one then there is a need for the Universe to balance itself.

I wonder if the lesson was learned by your neighbor?

This is no different than what is going on in Israel right now. The Israelis left Gaza. HAMAS could have minded its own business and tended to the needs of its own citizens but NOOOOO. It couldn’t leave well enough alone.

Some people deserve the hell they make on this earth.

Agreed, re: Israel - I was thinking along those lines myself.

My neighbor apologized and said she shouldn’t have done it. But since all of this started with a trip to church, I prefer to think that our dogma ran over her karma. ;-)
