Remember the Clinton Impeachment?

It seems hard to believe that it’s been eight years since Bill Clinton was impeached. (Yes, lefties, he was in fact impeached. Impeached does not mean “removed from office.” It is the parliamentary equivalent of being indicted. In Clinton’s case, he was ten votes short of being convicted in his Senate trial, so we were spared a Gore presidency.) From the article:
As the committee was voting on the impeachment articles, Clinton was pleading for a lesser punishment. “The thin sheaf of pages shook in his hands as President Clinton invited punishment without impeachment. ‘I understand that accountability demands consequences,’ he said,” as reported in the Syracuse Herald Journal on December 12, 1998. “Clinton’s emotional plea for a lesser punishment of ‘rebuke and censure’ was the latest step in his campaign to be punished on his own terms by Congress and the American public.”
We have such short attention spans these days. Forget history; as a nation we’re no longer capable of current events. We can’t seem to connect the dots between the timing of the Mark Foley scandal and the steady drumbeat of bad news on the economy had on the election, with the post election news that Democrats knew as much about Foley’s emails as Republicans and the current positive reporting on the economy is not the result of a massive change that occurred the day after the election. Why the nation can’t put this together and realize that the media doesn’t work for us is beyond me, but it’s true.
However, the state of the blogosphere is excellent with over 57 million blogs. Blog writers tend to be blog readers, so healthy inroads have been made as far as getting non-MSM input into the public square. And as the article notes, “The integration of blogs and traditional media sites on the web continues.” The watchdog groups are working hard to keep the MSM accountable. Check out the 2006 Dishonest Reporter of the Year Award for a few examples.
And as a reminder why the media should not be our only source of information, enjoy some plain talking from Dr. Sanity here, and a jabberwonky analysis:
The jabberwonky political left, with eyes of flame and postmodern claws that catch, is so intent on undermining those awful, unilateralist neocons (the greatest threat to civilization as they know it) and biting at the heart of the American neocon President; that they are happy to ally themselves with the the Ahmadinejubjubbird and the and the frumious Islamosnatch.
As I suggested in the previous post, it is long past time that those of us committed to reality, reason and truth took our vorpal sword in hand and kill this rhetorical beast dead, once and for all.
