Jena 6: Now Sexual Allegations

July 2, 2007 by Laura | Trackback URI

I’ve noticed quite a few comments at Town Talk, various message boards, and even on this blog about how the “Jena Six” were inappropriately touching white girls. I guess that was predictable… here in the south, the Klan has gotten a lot of mileage from that meme and to many, it’s conventional wisdom. Black men attacking white women… it’s straight out of Gone With The Wind. Does it ever happen in real life? Yes, it’s on record that in this country, black men have raped white women. As white men have raped white women, white men have raped black women, and black men have raped black women. Regardless of the racist meme that black men are just dying to sexually assault white women, according the the Department of Justice,

Victims of rape were about evenly divided between whites and blacks; in about 88% of forcible rapes, the victim and offender were of the same race.

The allegations can be summarized as “the Jena Six made unwanted advances on white girls. That’s why they wanted to sit under the tree - to be closer to the white girls. The noose-hangers were trying to defend the girls by scaring them off.”

First, there is no evidence anywhere that this is true. Second, if it is true - IF, as one commenter suggested, one of the Jena Six asked a white girl out on a date, what’s the problem? Unless he kidnapped her and dragged her to the movies or a dance against her will, I don’t see the problem. Did he stalk her? Harass her? If so, there are ways she and her parents could have taken action against it. It’s been alleged by a commenter that advances by the Jena Six went beyond asking a girl on a date. They “were being overly flirtatious w/ them (pinching their butts).” IF that were true, that’s not flirting, it’s assault. IF that were true, any girl could have gone to the principal for school discipline to have been applied, or even to the police for criminal charges.

But the truth is there has not been one founded allegation of any impropriety. Just gossip and rumor, stirring up the old black man/white woman myth. So I’m making a challenge. Let’s see some evidence. Let’s see a girl make these claims to a reporter. Let’s see Reed Walters bring charges. Let’s see something other than gossip and innuendo that the nooses were hung because “white boys were protecting their women as southern gentlemen ought.” Put up or shut up. Because otherwise, I emphatically call “bull___” on the whole thing.

I have submitted information involving this case to the FBI tips website for violations pertaining to Hate Crimes and Civil Rights violations.

People may have freedom of speech, but that does not extend to threats of violence. Hanging nooses is a threat of lynching and a hate crime. Persons of color living in the USA are often descended from slaves who were raped by White masters. So that if a brown skinned teen asked a light pigmentated teen on a date, it truly should be “black guy asks white girl on date”. Or, no big deal. If Justin and the other white boys pinched the same girls on the butt, which, they most likely do, I wonder if they would be so up in arms.

Scotty, this is a direct quotation from an FBI person who investigated the entire Jena incident:

“We have examined all of their actions and I’m not saying I agree with what they’ve done but I can say that we could find no violation in the way they handled each event. All of their procedures were ‘regular’ and not ‘irregular.”

This was an African-American FBI agent named Donald Washington.

We are flooding these official’s phones with calls, please do the same to support these kids and their families Also contact Jena mayor Murphy McMillan as neither he nor the City Council of Jena has lifted a finger of protest against this travesty of justice that we are aware of:
    Murphy McMillan, Mayor
    Phone (318) 992-2148

I have attended schools which were considered racially divided. Each group had areas they considered their own and when invaded by another group offense was taken. The difference between those situations and this is people were assaulted this is an offense punishable by state law regardless of the offender. The problem we are now facing is the prosecutor has chosen to persecute with discrimination. The solution is to prosecute the prosecutor. The prosecutor is responsible and is more than likely supported by an economic group. Can we not apply pressure to the prosecutor and his economic and political support, via elections and boycott?

I never read were any of the white kids did anything violent. Did they beat someone while they were on the ground? Did the kick and beat someone? The black kids handled this wrong and now you want to reward them? They should pay for the crime.
