Missing the point…

Huh?

A Brooklyn woman collected $370,000 in welfare benefits after claiming her husband abandoned her, even as he secretly paid for the children to attend religious schools, prosecutors said yesterday.

Okay, the stealing I can understand, although I obviously don’t approve. But religious schools? That, I don’t get.  The article doesn’t mention the religion or how many and how old the children are.

She must have been on welfare a long time to accrue that much in benefits, unless huge chunks of it were medical benefits for a seriously ill child.

Good news on the immigration front: Chris Cannon defeated in primary

Shamnesty Republican Chris Cannon defeated in Utah primary

Every time an immigration enforcement proponent loses a seat in Congress, the open-borders Wall Street Journal and their ilk use it to argue that Republicans need to support shamnesty to maintain political viability. The WSJ falsely framed the 2006 midterm election losses of GOP Reps. John Hostettler, Randy Graf, and J.D. Hayworth as electoral rejection of strict enforcement of immigration laws–conveniently ignoring the fact their opponents campaigned to their right on the issue.

Local news here does the same thing, but read the comments for a very different story.

Will Atlas Shrug?

Shocking-

I’m not sure exactly how the AMT fits into this (does anyone really understand the AMT?), but figure the top marginal tax rates for residents of NYC, DC, California, and similar high tax areas will be 60% or higher. Yikes!

If that happens we’ll all want to join this guy because if we’re going to be poor anyway, we might as well relax.   It certainly brings Isaiah 59:14 to mind.

The Obligatory Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Refuses Bathroom Access to 5-Year-Old Post

So here’s my obligatory Worst Customer Service Ever: Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Refuses Bathroom Access to 5-Year-Old, Who Then Has Diarrhea In Front Of Them post.   The short version of the story is that the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory heartlessly denied assistance to a sick child, laughed at the mother when she complained to the manager later, and apparently are in violation of the Uniform Plumbing Code in CA.  So while the customer was certainly not served, justice may be.

I don’t despise some minimum wage slave who simply adheres to a policy she’s been taught – although some mercy and common sense were certainly called for.  But the manager is guilty of some seriously bad judgement, if nothing else.  She was slow to return the phone call, arrogant with the customer, clueless about PR and the viral nature of the web.
