Like the second Librarian movie, this one is directed by Jonathan Frakes of Star Trek: TNG fame. I’m quite tempted to lurk around the Quarter and see if I can get close enough to cadge his autograph. Pitiful.  Trek fandom aside, I thoroughly enjoyed the first two movies and am really looking forward to the third. They may be Indiana Jones knockoffs but they’re good, relatively clean, fun movies that the whole family can enjoy. And I’m always delighted to hear about filming in N’awlins – even when they get it dead wrong, like chase scenes that take you from the French Quarter to the bayou in thirty seconds or less.

I will admit to some trepidation about this movie.  The reference to the “Judas chalice” in light of the recent resurgence of Gnosticism makes me wonder if I’m going to end up annoyed rather than entertained.  Yes, the first Indiana Jones movie referenced a religious artifact but a) that one was discussed extensively in the bible and specifically described as having some, shall we say, unusual properties and b) the focus was less on the ark itself and more on the quest and the battle against the Nazis.  I really hope that in this movie there’s less focus on the invented artifact and false religion and more on the adventure.
