Another Chink in the MSM Wall

The main benefit of the MSM that the blogosphere has not been able to provide is information gathering. Now we’re putting a chink in that too. The Power Line Video of the May 1 protests is excellent – it goes much further in depth than the typical MSM pap. The reporter, Andrew Marcus, asks the questions I think many viewers would like to know. He started with a man who was articulate, reasonable, and well spoken. He was brought here as a child, has been here for 16 years, has two American children of his own and is not receiving any government benefits. He wants a way to become a citizen, and I think reasonable people, after we get some kind of Jurassic Park wall up on the border to stop the influx, just might agree to give him a chance, after all the legal immigrants have been taken care of first. The mainstream media would have stopped right there. But Marcus went on to interview more people.

For example, he asks a man carrying a sign that says President Bush is a reptile, why exactly Bush is a reptile. The man had no clear answers, finally stumbling into a complaint about the war in Iraq. A woman declared that the land is stolen and should be given back to Mexico. A Filipino woman was interviewed at length, and it took a while to get past the approved talking points and slogans but ultimately it was clear that nothing less than open borders would satisfy her. Another man claimed that the Minutemen have killed illegal immigrants – the implication was purposeful, individual murders, and lots of ‘em. Marcus asked him repeatedly, “Who did they kill?” but he had no answer so he walked it back to say that they have been beating up people. Another man stepped up to bail him out and they finally concluded that the Minutemen have killed 10,000 people by their mere presence on the border. Since 1994. And it’s all Bush’s fault, by the way. No mention of the man who was President in 1994, and no awareness of the fact that the Minutemen organization did not exist at all in 1994.

Part of the problem with the MSM in this regard is they just don’t have the airtime to air these longer interviews; we can’t have anything cutting into our Missing White Women/Duke rape charges news time, of course. So the internet is well-suited for this kind of thing. But part of it is that these moonbats just don’t fit well into the predetermined agenda. The first guy was perfect; they would have stopped right there no matter what other footage they got. And the viewer would have concluded that, gee, all these well meaning, rational people, who aren’t on the dole, maybe they deserve a chance to become citizens even though they broke our laws to get here. But it’s not so simple, and it’s also not so easy to pull the wool over our eyes anymore.

Another chink in the MSM wall. And like the Berlin wall, bloggers are swarming over it, tearing it down with any tool we can get our hands on.
