Another Terrible Poster Child For The Left

homepagefinancialThe latest in a series of ridiculous poster children (remember Graeme Frost?) for the left – people the media decline to scrutinize. If the media did take even a cursory look at these people it would completely undermine the narrative. This time it’s ACORN bartender Donna Hanks. Poor Donna. The mean, evil, capitalists stole her home! Except that’s not quite what happened.

Via Michelle Malkin, you can learn the rest of the facts, specifically that this bartender – and bartenders can sometimes make pretty good money – bought a home for $87,000. That’s a reasonable figure, and it seems likely she’d be able to afford that home. Except a few years later, she refinanced it for $270,000. A debt no one in their right mind could conclude someone subsisting largely on tips – she had a total net monthly take home pay of $1,228 – ought to be able to take on. How was the bank persuaded to make such a loan?  Was ACORN involved in that too?

More than a quarter of a million dollars…  Malkin wonders: Where did all that money go?

A fair question.  But one which the media will never ask.  ACORN now declares that housing is a right.  And when pressed to describe the source of that right, can only come up with “the pursuit of happiness.”  You have to watch the video and read the whole skin-crawling transcript to really understand the audacity of these people.

But I can’t help but wonder, if the Constitutional right to pursue happiness entitles me to take other people’s property, why I can’t just move into, say, Barack Obama’s currently abandoned Chicago home.
