Registered child sex offenders will have to provide their email addresses to police in a move to stop them using social networking Web sites, the Home Office announced on Friday.
Police will pass the addresses on to the sites which will then be expected to monitor usage or stop offenders logging on.
Sex offenders will face up to five years in prison if they fail to hand over the details or provide a false email.

Right… they’re going to be honest about this. Suuure. People who rape, molest, and otherwise abuse innocent children have enough honor to tell the truth, or fear of the consequences, to make sure they are adequately supervised so they don’t do what they want to do again.
Because demanding personal responsibility from criminals is clearly more effective than demanding parents who profess to love their children to, you know, actually pay attention to them and make sure they’re safe online. Yeah. That’ll work.
