I was really frustrated to read Froma Harrop’s suggestion that Louisiana be made a U. S. Protectorate – in other words, let the feds take over the entire state – because of the oil spill. She is so wrong on so many levels that a real fisking would have cut deeply into my billable client time. It’s Katrina all over again – only this time instead of the Corps of Engineers getting away with malfeasance, it’s MMS… and post-spill, quite a few other agencies of the federal government. So I devoted my first post over at the Washington Examiner to a reality check on the issue.
A federal takeover is hardly necessary. But succession is starting to sound pretty good.

The federal government is definitely the ones to blame at this point. I’ve changed my opinion a bit since my last post, where I stated that the president cannot work miracles. In this case, I almost think Obama is intentionally drawing out this problem so he can demonize the oil companies and make Bobby Jindal look weak and distract us from his other tyrannical, unpopular measures and failures.
I hate to go all conspiracy-theory, but yes, a whole lot of us are thinking along those lines because it seems to fit the facts on the ground pretty well. I hate to attribute malice where incompetence can explain it, but… stopping us from dredging for a week to build the sand berms, in order to protect the salinity of water which is about to be full of oil in the absence of the sand berms? WTH? They’re more worried about salt than crude oil? It’s just completely stupid, so stupid that it must – must - be willfully stupid because nobody is that stupid without cause.
