Bush Will Address Nation on Immigration Issue

Monday at 8pm ET President Bush will address us on immigration. I’ll be liveblogging it and expect to post the video within an hour of the broadcast. I seriously doubt, given past intransigence, that he is changing his position. The fact that the President refers to it as “immigration” instead of “illegal immigration” is discouraging. The fact that the Pentagon is considering stationing National Guard troops at the border is encouraging. The question is how many and where they will be stationed? And when they catch illegals coming in, will it be catch and release, or will there be actual consequences? I’m glad that we have a President who doesn’t live and die by the polls, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay for him to completely disregard the will of the electorate. Still, I hope that the recent use of the words “treason,” “impeachment,” and “3rd party,” in the conservative base have finally, finally trickled up to our leadership.
