It’s no longer acceptable in mixed company, meaning bipartisan company, to use the god**** word climate. It is not acceptable. They have polluted it to the point where we cannot possibly come to an agreement on it.

Put aside the fact that the warmists never wanted to “come to an agreement.” What they wanted was for the rest of us to get in line and agree to hamstring the economy and empower government to control minute details of our lives (like lightbulbs and toilets and our freedom to travel) based on science so shaky that scientists routinely refuse to release data, and have been caught falsifying and hiding evidence.

And now by ManBearPig’s own account, we have a significant victory.  Apocalyptic prediction after prediction has failed to come to pass, and people can’t help but notice they’ve been lied to.  His Oscar-winning propaganda film was found by a court to have errors so significant it cannot be shown to UK schoolchildren without disclaimers.  After years of warmists comparing “climate deniers” to Nazis and terrorists, it’s Gore’s views which are “no longer acceptable” to the majority of us.

The photo of Bush and the  ”Mission Accomplished” banner was used deceptively by the left in that the mission that was accomplished in that case was the limited, 10 month mission of the aircraft carrier. The banner was not intended to signal “mission accomplished” over the overall Iraq war.  Similarly, Gore’s spittle-flecked diatribe indicates a battle won, not the war. We’re now near the end of the current global warming scare, but this cycle has been played out five times since the New York Times first hyped climate change in 1895.  True victory will be transparency on the part of scientists and accurate and fair reporting on climate, and we are nowhere near that yet.  Still, Gore’s public frustration is a very satisfying marker.

No longer acceptable.

Many of today’s climate scientists are being reschooled in those basics. For years they displayed a snotty “I’m smarter than you chump taxpayers, so take my word that we have to destroy the economy or die” attitude and refused to show their work.  Now, Freedom of Information Act requests are forcing them to put up or shut up.

Michael Mann, of the entirely debunked “hockey stick” fame, routinely fights requests to show his work and now he’s being required to show his emails, so that the taxpayers who fund him can know if he’s pulling an East Anglia or not.  And by “an East Anglia” I mean conspiring to hide and distort data in order to propagandize for the cult of anthropogenic global warming.  After his hockey stick fiasco, I would bet that he has.

Holliday has for several years been predicting that blackouts could become a feature of power systems that replace reliable coal plants with wind turbines in order to meet greenhouse gas targets…. Under the so-called “smart grid” that the UK is developing, the government-regulated utility will be able to decide when and where power should be delivered, to ensure that it meets the highest social purpose. Governments may, for example, decide that the needs of key industries take precedence over others, or that the needs of industry trump that of residential consumers. Governments would also be able to price power prohibitively if it is used for non-essential purposes.

Blackouts: not a bug. A feature.  And don’t worry. You can trust the government to know when you need electricity and how you may properly use it.

I’m thoroughly enjoying watching the wheels come off the global warming bus. Six Meat Buffet asks the critical question: If The Tree of Global Warming Fell In The Living Rooms of The American Press And No One Reported It Would It Make A Sound?

As Ric Locke via Insty points out, “everybody who’s actually been to a Tea Party rally, then watched Teh Newz afterwards, knows from personal experience that the alphabet media are a pack of liars.”  The last 15 years of hyping – instead of investigating and fairly reporting – global warming stories illustrate it as well.  At some point we have to get beyond the benefit of the doubt.  Was the press essentially tricked by scientists who were in turn led astray by the quest for grants and a handful of scam artists?  What did the press know and when did they know it?

I can accept the “conspiracy of shared values” theory – that the press eagerly believed global warming theory because it helped achieve leftist goals with which they agreed.  But at some point, it does go beyond that and even simple incompetence.  And this is that point, as Six Meat points out.  They are willfully not reporting on what Michelle Malkin describes “the global warming scandal of the century” summed up by Viscount Monckton.  The Associate Press has a story, and they’re sticking to it.   So is the Washington Post.

I created the Global Warming/Global Cooling category back in 2007 when I learned that the scaremongering media hype on climate change had been going on for more than a century, switching from cooling to warming every few decades.  I’m old enough to remember the 1970s global cooling scare.  I remember being told to enjoy my summers because it would be cold year-round when I grew up, and hearing conversations between adults on whether they ought to have a backyard greenhouse because it would eventually be too cold to grow produce any other way.  As the Frank Capra video shows, the 70s cooling hype was preceded by the 50s warming hype.  This eye-opening article tracks the hype since 1895.  And since warming is obviously not happening, before too much longer we’ll start hearing more about manmade climate change cooling.  The snow line is indisputably moving south, and my prediction is that the media will surely pick up the pace on the global cooling stories which started nearly three years ago.  Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.

Keep in mind, this is by far not the first scam of this nature – we’ve had a climate scare roughly every 30 years since 1895.  That’s not a typo: Eighteen ninety five.  And then there are the other media-driven psuedo-scientific scares that crop up periodically, like the anti-vaccine scare that’s finally coming to an end, or the recent swine flu scare, or the bird flu, the tomato scare, nuclear energy, cyclamates… right down to the DDT demonization that has sacrificed the lives of millions to malaria.  The bad science/media hype combo kills people, and there need to be consequences for that.

To sum up…

So they cheat. And they lie. And they have from the very beginning.

Nice to see an interviewer hold their feet to the fire for once.

Gosh, this is becoming a theme. Intrepid sailors/hikers/tourists/scientists/ecologists head for the Arctic with intent to show the world how the Arctic is melting, get stuck in/on the ice, or hopelessly battered, and end up needing rescue by those evil fossil fuel belching rescue ships, helicopters, and planes.

President Obama knows this is a massive tax – and it will certainly affect the working poor the most.  Video below the fold, but here’s the money quote:

“Under my plan of a cap and trade system electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Businesses would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that cost onto consumers.”

Apparently, the NWS thought enough of the criticism of the siting next to a/c heat exchangers to do something about it. And, I’ve been hearing from time to time, that stations that volunteers have visited and we have showcased in “How Not To Measure Temperature, Part X” have been quietly cleaned up.

That’s lovely – it’s nice that something is at least being done.  The essential dishonesty of the “quiet” cleanups is disturbing, though.  Not least because it’s going to facilitate the ongoing switch from global warming hype to global cooling hype.

The anthropogenic global warming scam exists on many levels, from deliberate dishonesty by Al Gore and other profiteers, to typical media hype, to the bandwagon effect on well-meaning but ignorant, emotionally-driven people who further propagate the lies.  Some people my age (I’m 40) remember the global cooling scare of the 70s.  I don’t know anyone who remembers the global warming scare of the 50s, though this Frank Capra video is a wonderful example of it.

The global cooling scare that lasted from the turn of the century until the 20s is hardly heard of. But we’ve had a centuryof switching back and forth between global cooling and global warming scares.  It’s not some mass conspiracy, plotted in a smoke-filled back room.  It’s a combination of some huckster con men who stand to directly profit, scientists who like the way government funding guarantees their jobs, the media which benefits from publishing dramatic stories, political opportunists who use the hype to accomplish political goals and gain power, and recently, people who want to enjoy that sanctimonious, holier-than-thou feeling without submitting to traditional religion.

I’m not suggesting that the “quiet cleanup” is quiet due to anything more than simple embarrassment.  But the result of it is that it will help pave the way for the next big global cooling scare.  As the recorded temperatures drop back to normal levels, there will be media reports of the sudden sharp drop in temperature, and it will finally be widely publicized that warming stopped some time ago.  The media will publish breathless reports.  Demands  for explanations will be made and taxpayer money for studies will be provided.  This is easily predictable as it’s happened four times before just in the last century.  Articles fretting about global cooling started in earnest a couple of a years ago and the pace is picking up. Newsbusters linked today to an article suggesting we may have a year without summer; an interesting flashback to when I was a kid and an adult warned me to enjoy my summer vacation, because we wouldn’t have that kind of warm weather when I grew up. The writer of Ecclesiastes did warn that there’s nothing new under the sun.

Because anthropogenic global warming theory is fueled by some very dicey (and consistently wrong) computer models, which in turn frequently use demonstrably bad data like that generated by weather stations sited next to AC units, nor is global warming unequivocally bad, the hucksters are going to have to switch back to cooling eventually.   So buckle your seatbelts – we’re about to be taken for another ride.  I’m really looking forward to how the media portrays Al Gore as a hero for building a massive house and jetting all over the world – he’s just doing his part to fight global cooling!

Climate change has a new Knight in Shining Armor – Henry Waxman (D-CA).  His 900+ page Climate Bill, also known as Cap-and-Trade or more affectionately as Cap-and-Tax, is supposed to somehow stop, and possibly reverse, Global Warming.  Waxman, and other supporters are obviously not true believers in the climate change cause, or CO₂‘s role as a root cause.

It should be plainly obvious that an energy tax will have absolutely no effect on either global atmospheric concentrations of CO₂, nor average temperatures.  Not one additional inch of arctic ice will be gained.  Snow will not magically form on Mount Kilimanjaro.  Ocean levels are not about to drop.  The money collected will have an impact on our energy consumption, but only until people discover the loopholes.  In winter, they may use their fireplaces more often.  Plans for homemade methanol and ethanol stills will receive far more hits on Google.  Sales of candles and kerosene lamps will increase.  Demand for meat will shift to cheaper cuts and more chicken will be purchased.  Overall, poverty will increase.  Not one of these things will “save the world.”  Economies shift when under pressure.  Like a bean-bag chair, pressure on one end causes a rise on the other.

The taxes raised may partially be used to fund “green” energy facilities, or find its way into researching better batteries, but it will only be a fraction.  Like taxes collected for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Cigarette, Alcohol, Gasoline, et. al., none of the money will be set aside for its intended purpose.  All of the money be placed straight into the general fund, where it will be spent to further yet more government encroachment upon our liberties.  Furthermore, requests for this money for its rightful purpose will be looked upon as an annoyance.  Lawmakers will treat grant requests as they would a housefly.  Attempts to audit the fund, should anyone be so bold, will be stonewalled and blocked by the same people who promise “transparency.”  We are witnessing the birth of yet another Sorelian Myth.

Social Security is protected by such a myth.  As such any attempt to repair the situation and perform the necessary economic triage is seen as heresy and fought tooth-and-nail.  What is worse, like the taxes collected before based upon the promise to fix whatever dire emergency the Democrats created (usually out of thin air), since nothing will be done about the actual problem, it will remain.  This will later be used to increase the tax amount.  You will hear cries of “more must be done” echo through the halls of Congress, Academia, and on every MSM news program.

If Waxman and Obama were true believers, if they were honestly disciples of the “evil CO₂” myth, then they would demand that the sources of this harmless molecule be cut off.  A partial list of things that would be illegal would include: all fuels, barbecue grills, candles, leaf burning, carbonated beverages, alcoholic beverages, rubbing alcohol, leavened breads, Pop-Rocks, baking soda, food animals, household pets, styrofoam and packing peanuts, paper, plastics, glass production, metal production, house fires, forest fires, volcanoes, flatulence and exhaling.

Since cars and planes would no longer be possible, large sections of roadways, parking lots, and airports would be converted back into fertile soil and planted.  Of course, without machinery, it would take some time to chip all the concrete and asphalt away…especially without exhaling.  But look on the bright side, at least we would never get to read another 900 page bill again.
