There is an ongoing war against Christians and non-Muslims in third world countries – see the Persecution Blog for details – but in Nigeria recently Christians fought back. After several imams instigated the Mohammed cartoon riots, months after their original publication (and with the aid of several unrelated images that were far more offensive than the cartoons), the rioting spread to Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday and continued through Tuesday. 30 churches were razed, and Christians were killed. On Tuesday, Christians fought back, burning two mosques and killing Muslims.
I sympathize – I don’t know if I could just submit to being killed, or forced to live under the tenets of a faith that is not my own. I can imagine killing someone in self defense or to defend my family, and there’s a case to be made that fighting back in this way is self-defense. But this is heartbreaking, for the Muslims who died without knowing the Lord, for the Christians who took their lives, and for a nation which is slowly but surely succumbing to Islam.
