Back when Senator Kennedy was diagnosed with brain cancer, evidently my post noting the news was the harshest Slate could find on the conservative web. The right certainly displayed more decency than the left did upon hearing of Tony Snow’s diagnosis. Slate said I was “on guard for hagiography.” And now that Kennedy has died, I have not been disappointed.
I have empathy for the Kennedy family. I spent all day Monday at a funeral and the following reception, and it’s not like I’ve forgotten what grief is. It’s a sad day and I will certainly pray for them. But since the left is not hesitating to use his death to forward their political goals, I will match their level of respect by pointing out an inconvenient truth.
Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with a form of cancer where patients typically live about a year after diagnosis. In spite of the fact that he was old, obese, and a heavy drinker without any serious hope of recovery even with massive healthcare expenditures, he did not go home and take pain pills. On the contrary, he quickly assembled a team of more than a dozen experts from all academic centers over the country, and decided to have a surgery that the experts were sharply divided on. He utilized an option that will never be available to the rest of us if the left succeeds in providing “Medicare for all.”
So I’ll honor Senator Ted Kennedy by fighting for my right to emulate him in accessing health care to the extent that I want to and can afford.

“If only we had Obamacare, ole’ Teddy might’ve lived…about eight months shorter!” I want that to be the Democrats’ new rallying cry.
Based on the news out of the UK today about the appendix that was removed (but actually wasn’t until it exploded, nearly killing its victim), it’s safe to say that, under the tender mercies of Obamacare, Teddy would have had everything but the malignant tumor removed from his brain.
What’s pathetic is that my family can be counted among those who have no insurance coverage. We’ve been without healthcare insurance for over a year now. My parents too are among those without insurance. We are some of the “unfortunates” that Obamacare is supposed to help. However, I don’t need that kind of help!
I have friends who live in countries utilizing socialized medicine. They have first-hand experience of the horrors in this kind of system. One such friend had to go through psychiatric evaluations just to be allowed to go to a different hospital than the one to which she was assigned when she had her 2nd child after said hospital made some gross medical errors in the delivery of her 1st child.
This is what we have to look forward to if Obamamania succeeds in saddling us with this monstrosity!

Bravo on your article Laura, I’ve been so fed up with the pomp the media has given this man who fought to destroy family values, it’s refreshing that your article points out the truth about him. Good job.
Simply stated and it hits home. When someone tells me how millionaires such as Gates and Buffet vote left, I respond to the fact that they can afford it. No policy will effect them. Not yet anyway.
