The singer makes his controversial claim about the Lord in a new US interview that will enrage America’s bible belt.Elton, 62, declares as he pours out his heart to a magazine: “I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems.”
This is ridiculous, though hardly enraging. It’s much easier to believe and “follow” a God who just so happens to believe all the same things I do. We’ve all done it at one time or another. And that’s the difference between real Christianity and the pseudo-Christianity we see so much of, even by well-meaning people. Real Christianity is bringing yourself to the bible and being changed by it, not bringing the bible to yourself and interpreting it in a convenient way so that nothing is required of you. It’s a process you have to repeat over and over and over again. That’s why it’s hard, that’s why it demands a humble and willing spirit, and that’s why – no matter how many people self-identify as Christians – there are so few.

well said. I was reading the foxnews article tonight about a catholic church giving up the foster care program so they don’t have to give children to gays(potential child molestors) and many of the comments were about how “intolerant” the church was, while Jesus “dined with sinners”. What they are missing is that Jesus wanted them to REPENT of their sins and hung around with them so they would recognize His righteousness and emmulate Him, not because He accepted their perversions.
