It’s not too late to stop SPENDULUS, especially if you’ve got a Blue Dog Senator, as I do. And a viable alternative has been proposed by a Democrat. I just called and emailed Mary Landrieu:
Dear Senator Landrieu,
According to the CBO, the recession is going to end in about a year whether or not we pass this stimulus. Furthermore, virtually identical plans enacted in Japan and Australia made their economic situation worse – just as it did here during the Great Depression. To go into about a TRILLION dollars worth of debt – a million million dollars – is frankly insane. We only have 300 MILLION people in the country – and only about 40% of them are net contributors to the cost of government; about 60 percent of the nation uses more in government services than the taxes they pay – to pay off that debt. That’s a LOT of debt, Senator Landrieu. Please… take a step back and reconsider your support of it.
Representative Walter Minnick’s START act is a much more reasonable and affordable response, and is far more likely to be effective.
I am a registered independent, and you have had my vote in the past. Please, Senator Landrieu; I beg you. Don’t do this thing. The nation simply cannot afford it.
Laura Curtis

I’m surprised you would vote for a Democratic senator. No matter how conservative they pretend to be, every Democrat will invariably vote for Democratic (i.e., communist) chamber leadership, and they will usually vote along party lines in procedural matters. I bet Landrieu will vote for cloture on debate and then (pointlessly) vote against the bill.
I can’t remember what the problem was with her opponent now, but he was worse for some reason.
