Gore Willing to Violate International Law To Get Terrorists

So the big brouhaha right now that the media can harp on to get us all off Obama’s back for calling us rubes is that Cheney approved “harsh interrogation techniques” against suspected terrorists. Which, if I recall correctly, were performed on exactly three people.

Ted Kennedy, D-Chivas, says,

“Long after President Bush has left office, our country will continue to pay the price for his administration’s renegade repudiation of the rule of law and fundamental human rights.”

Funny that there were reactions like that when it was revealed that Al Gore favored extraordinary rendition, something that the nutroots usually get rather upset about. Isn’t that a renegade repudiation of the rule of law and fundamental human rights?

IF WE NEED THIS KIND OF REALPOLITIK IN THE WHITE HOUSE, I guess we’d better vote Democratic:

The first time I proposed a snatch, in 1993, the White House Counsel, Lloyd Cutler, demanded a meeting with the President to explain how it violated international law. Clinton had seemed to be siding with Cutler until Al Gore belatedly joined the meeting, having just flown overnight from South Africa. Clinton recapped the arguments on both sides for Gore: Lloyd says this. Dick says that. Gore laughed and said, “That’s a no-brainer. Of course it’s a violation of international law, that’s why it’s a covert action. The guy is a terrorist. Go grab his ass.”

Gore in 2008!

Let me repeat:

Of course it’s a violation of international law, that’s why it’s a covert action. The guy is a terrorist.

A no-brainer.  My, how times change.
