Over here it’s “Shrove Tuesday” (from the old pre-reformation tradition of going to church having your sins ‘forgiven’ or “shriven” on that day) or more akin to the popular mindset today, “Pancake Tuesday”- basically as it;s traditional to make pancakes on that day, originally to use up ingredients what would be given up due to the Lenten fast, though not anymore!
Yes, “Mardi Gras” does tend to to conjure up images of scantily-clad women sometimes, sadly…
