If I close my eyes and think of stopping earmarks… maybe…

No less a personage than John Bolton says we need to hold our nose and vote for McCain.   Well, I said quite a while back that I would vote Democrat before I vote for Pastor Holiday Inn Express.  And I haven’t changed my mind about that.  I don’t feel nearly as strongly about McCain.  He has at least some redeeming qualities.  If I just close my eyes and think of England stopping earmarks… maybe I can do it.

Bolton said it was now clear that he would be the nominee, and specifically addressed those who argue that conservatives would be better off in the long run if Democrats win and mess things up than if mistakes are associated with a Republican. He compared this logic to Vladimir Lenin’s declaration that “worse is better” and said that “tactical domestic considerations” shouldn’t be allowed to harm our national security.

I think illegal immigration is a bit more serious than a “tactical domestic consideration” and will have unintended long term consequences – like the current middle east situation stemming in large part from Jimmy Carter’s disastrous term in office.  If and when McCain finally achieves his shamnesty, we can look forward to many decades of Democratic – and increasingly socialist, as even more people emigrate north and bring their politics with them – rule.  And the war will certainly be lost then too – it’ll just take longer to go that route.  But it’s less of a transition after increasingly liberal Republican presidencies, and maybe it’s not so bad to be the frog in the pot.  I mean, if the frog felt the burn he’d jump out, right?

I think it won’t matter and McCain will lose anyway, but some people think he has a shot.  In any event, I don’t feel compelled to pretend that McCain is a conservative or that I support him.  And I don’t even feel guilty about that opposition.  As he’s made abundantly clear, McCain despises me and my kind even more than we do him.
