Federal aviation safety inspectors testified before Congress today that lax oversight by their bosses and other regulators allowed Southwest Airlines last year to fly thousands of passengers on potentially unsafe jets in need of key safety checks.

Just a few days ago, I bought round trip tickets on Southwest for my daughter to go to this. And my cousin is a Southwest pilot. It’s not just Southwest.

Still, the inspectors’ concerns about Southwest, which the FAA first acknowledged a year ago, have since been confirmed, and the agency on Wednesday said it is investigating four airlines for failing to comply with various federal aviation regulations. It did not name the airlines.
