I can’t help but wonder what the condition of all those underfunded pension programs would be if unions had Big Labor not contributed tens of millions to political candidates. You think members ever question the priorities of their union masters?

As to the mind rays… I suspect most are just going along to get along, paying little or no mind to politics just like the rest of the country. For the bulk of the remainder, I assume it’s the same problem I’ve observed in my own family – most lefties are working from an entirely different data set than conservatives use. They actually believe Maddow, Olbermann, etc… and I imagine the rare dissenter is shouted down. Just guessing, though.
On a more serious note, do actual union members have any power at all?? I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that the way they’re organized, it insulates the leadership a great deal from the rank and file membership. (It’s that or the rank and file members are controlled via mind rays.)
