I posted Lieberman Wins! on May 18th, and the main reason I expected him to win was that the Kos Kidz were rooting for his opponent. And their track record was nothing but losses, at that point. I’ve often wondered if there’s some connection between them and the Saints. And if so, does this mean this is finally our year? But I digress.
I was wrong. Lamont won the primary. It’s a good news/bad news situation, as far as I’m concerned. In a lot of ways, nothing has changed. A liberal will still have the seat. Although the far left excoriated Lieberman, the fact is that he voted their way almost all the time, with the only significant break from their agenda being the Iraq war. So now, we have one less person in favor of the war. (I’m discounting any possibility of a Republican taking the seat, since CT is such a blue state. Will Lieberman actually run, much less win, as an independent? RWN has more on that.) So Lieberman, who was good enough to run for VP pretty recently, is now waaay too conservative and must be purged from the delicate tummies of the far left voters. I admire Lieberman for sticking to his principles and not waffling just to keep his seat, and for that reason, I’m sorry he lost. The Gang of 14 will now be short a member. I guess we’ll have to see what, if any, fallout there will be due to that.
Now Hillary Clinton and other Democrats are being “encouraged” to publicly move further left. More far left candidates – even incumbents – will probably mean more Republicans in office. With the abominable Republican earmarking and illegal immigration policies, that’s not uniformly good… but as bad as they are, I prefer them to Democrats. Some interesting Kos Kidz responses:
Paging Hillary Clinton: Your 08 bid for President might be very short …are you tossing and turning a bit tonight ?
Mr. Schumer? Mr. Reid? Mr. and Mrs. Clinton? We’re waiting for your response.
Many high-profile Democrats campaigned for Joe in the primary. That is over. It’s time for my Democratic representatives unite behind Lamont. I do not want to see one nickel of Democratic money supporting Joe’s campaign. In fact, Harry Reid should strip Lieberman of his committee assignments, unless he decides to become a Democrat again.
The reckoning is coming. Chairman Conyers, subpoena power: heads. rolling. I can just taste it.
Oh my. Whatever will Chuckie Schumer do now?
I’m also going to be prodding Senator Clinton on her continued “war was a good idea, just poorly executed stance”. Then, once again remind her why fellow Senator in the nearby state of CT may no longer be able to hold onto that well-connected job.
I just called Senator Clinton’s campaign (212-213-3717). I spoke to a friendly staffer and asked if the Senator planned to endorse Ned Lamont now that he has won. The person I spoke to didn’t know, but said she’d have someone call me back in the morning.
