Ace is agonizing, particularly since the news of Weiner’s impending fatherhood, whether he should have kept at this story until conservative websites and eventually the media were finally forced to cover it. He runs the gamut from everybody lies about sex, it’s the hypocrisy, can’t we all just get along, the Prisoner’s Dilemma… it’s a thoughtful post and well worth a read. But really, from the point of view of this proletarian, it’s all very simple.
It really is the hypocrisy. Not Weiner’s hypocrisy in betraying his wife, or the lies he publicly told or how he slandered the right for the, er, #hacking. I’m talking about the Democrat’s and the liberal media’s (but I repeat myself, ba-dum-dum) hypocrisy.
They will not, must not, shall not be permitted to rake conservative – or for that matter, Republican - politicians over the coals for sexual peccadilloes and other bad behavior unless those same standards are applied to Democrats.
The days of having two sets of rules ended when it became clear that the blogosphere can push a story to the point that the media is forced to cover it. There are 266 million internet users in North America as of 2010. You can be well informed without picking up a newspaper or watching television news. And when the media embargoes a story – as they did for the first few days of this scandal – not only does the word get out in spite of them, but their bias becomes part of the story.
