Persecution Blogging – Multimedia Edition

Most people know generally that Christians are persecuted in China, but don’t know the details on the restrictions against Christians or how they are treated. I have a friend who was a missionary in China for three years (he’s been called to another country since then) and I was amazed at how he described the lives of Christians in some parts of China. In some places, the laws are loosely enforced, but in others, Christians are literally martyred. There are two types of churches in China. Legal and illegal. The legal churches have registered with the government and preach within certain guidelines. For example, preaching about Jesus’ millennium reign is verboten. Think about not owning a bible, much less several as most American Christians do. Think about it being illegal to teach your children about Jesus. Think about being a pastor in China. What a terrifying privilege it must be! From the Christian Persecution Blog,

Pastor Gong Shengliang of South China Church has been mercilessly beaten while in prison. The attack happened on March 21st and was so bad that the Pastor has experienced hearing loss and couldn’t move his mouth for at least three days.

To make the injustice even worse, when the Pastor reported the cruel incident prison officials removed the two merit points he earned last year and praised his attacker.

You can write to encourage him and other prisoners at www.prisoneralert.com. To spread the word about The Voice of the Martyrs, you can get this amazing (free) powerpoint presentation.

And to inspire you, here’s a video from China Mission including and interviews and footage from China and the music videos Here Am I Send Me and We All Bow Down.
