PETA: Self-parodying

One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong.

PETA (the stupid PETA, not “People Eating Tasty Animals” PETA) is trying to start a movement to rename fish “sea kittens.” Because who’d want to eat a cute, cuddly kitten?

Yeah.  Good luck with that.

For a group so desperately concerned with animal welfare, you’d think they’d stop killing animals themselves.

Animal shelters in Virginia (my home) have no-one but themselves to blame for their poor success in finding homes for animals in their care.

The process for “adopting” an animal from shelters here in Northern Virginia is as strict (in some ways) as the process for adopting a human child, complete with multiple home visits and separate interviews for each member of the prospective family. Yes, they want to interview your small children in private before they will consent to risking a precious animal in your care.

Oh, and they want the ETERNAL right to inspect your home again at any time, without any announcement, and if you do not measure up, they take the animal. Oh, and if that dog gets cancer or some other terminal illness? You will NOT have the right to have their animal euthanized if, in your judgement, that becomes necessary.

Sound far fetched? This is what I ran into when I looked into getting a dog for my family. I could not find a shelter that did NOT have these draconian requirements.
