Poor Kids Fighting The War, Part 286

As pointed out at NRO with a hat tip to Say Anything, the AP once again is pushing the myth that poor kids are practically being conscripted to fight the war.

The Associated Press reports that the Marines and other branches of the armed services are outperforming their recruiting goals. The AP tries to explain this away as — what else? — a consequence of the terrible, awful, no-good, very bad Bush economy.

It’s the meme that will not die because the soldiers-as-victims concept is far more attractive a motivation to the left than patriotism.  Here’s a little reality check provided by the Heritage Foundation.  Choke on it, Associated Press:
