The guy who called Katrina God’s punishment for sin in New Orleans got a promotion. Is there a city in this country – heck, the world! – without a gay bar, abortion clinic, corruption and prostitution? No explanation for how Vegas, Washington DC, and other cities remain standing – OR how the Catholic church’s coverup for the pedophiles in its midst didn’t result in some fire and brimstone falling on Rome, given Mark 9:42. Still, I guess it’s no worse than, who was it, Pat Buchanan? – who I believe said 9/11 was a punishment for homosexuality. Whackos.
Pope promotes cleric who called Katrina God's punishment for sin in New Orleans

I’m not entirely sure he actually said “Katrina is God punishing New Orleans.”
The only direct quotes I can find directly attributed to the new Bishop are “It’s no coincidence that in New Orleans all five abortion clinics as well as night clubs were destroyed.” and “”Is the noticeable rise in natural disasters a consequence of environmental pollution or rather of spiritual pollution?”
Everything else is “kath.net claims to have quoted from a parish newsletter”…. A single source that says it’s second-hand, that I can’t find a direct article for, and that is in a different language?
I’d need a block of salt before I’d trust the AP wire on that story, mostly because I know how horrible their track record has been. (‘Pope condemns Harry Potter!’ anyone?)
Arg, second quote should link here.
Other parts of the country exhibit immorality also, but you have to admit that New Orleans flaunts it more than other cities. Rest assured, though: The rest of the country will likely get its just deserts within the next thirty years. I was looking through my constitutional law textbook and saw the decision from Lawrence v. Texas (2003). After reading it, I thought to myself, “Yeah, we’ve been killing unborn children, subsidizing promiscuity and divorce, and robbing the citizens of tax money for decades — but when the highest court in the land finds a fundamental (God-given?) right to commit homosexuality, that’s pretty much the last straw. I don’t think the country can last much longer.
