Well. This pretty well sums it up, caps and all – Dr. Sanity has a great post, including some great quotes: POSTMODERNISM, THE CORRUPTION OF TRUTH, AND THE COMING GLOBAL TRAGEDY
While absorbing that concept, consider that about one third of the US population thinks the phrase, “to each according to his need, from each according to his abilities,” is in the US Constitution. One third also believes that the US government conspired in the 911 attacks. A majority thinks sheep farts have more to do with temperature variations on earth than the ball of nuclear fire the size of 1.3 million earths that is eight light-minutes away.
Indeed. And this reminded of me of my recent post including video of Soviet defector Soviet defector Yuri Alexandrovich Bezmenov filmed at least twenty years ago -
To me, the most obvious dangerous legacy of the Cold War would have to be the damage the Soviets did to the world. I don’t mean the millions they murdered; those dead do not threaten us now, even if they should haunt us.
I mean the relentless distortion of the truth, the psychological violence they visited on the West and the World via their useful idiots and their agents. I’m thinking not merely of the intellectual corruption of the American Left which even folks like Richard Rorty had to concede, but the corruption of reformers and their movements around the globe. Soviet propaganda still contaminates, while nuclear fallout does not. Lies about America, the West, and the nature of democratic capitalism live on throughout the third world and in radioactive pockets on American campuses.[emphasis mine]
Here’s what Bezmenov said about that relentless distortion of the truth – it was planned and purposeful, and clearly we can now look back and see that it was incredibly effective:
But in reality, the main area of the KGB is not in intelligence at all. Only 15% is spent on intelligence… the other 85% is spent on a slow process we call idealogical subversion or active measures or psychological warfare. What it basically means is to change the perception of reality of every American to such an extent that in spite of the abundance of information, no one is able to come to sensible conclusions in the interests of defending themselves, their families, their community and their country. It’s a great brainwashing process that goes very slow and is divided into four stages, the first one being demoralization.
It takes 15 to 20 years to demoralize a nation… because that is the minimum number of years it takes to educate one generation, to expose them to the ideology of the enemy. In other words, Marxism Leninism ideology is being pumped into the soft heads of at least three generations of American students without being challenged by the basic views of Americanism. The result you can see.
Most of the people who graduated in the sixties, dropouts or half baked intellectuals are now occupying the positions of power in the government, civil service, business, mass media, educational system. You are stuck with them. You cannot get through to them. They are programmed to think and react to certain stimuli, in a certain pattern. You cannot change their mind even if you expose them to authentic information. Even if you prove that white is white and black is black, you still cannot change the basic perception and the logic of behavior. In other words, the process of demoralization is complete and irreversible. To get rid society of these people you need another twenty or fifteen years to educate a new generation of patriotically minded and common sense people who would be acting in favor and in the interest of United States society.[Regarding dissenters] Marxist Leninist regime does not tolerate these people. … unlike in present United States there will be no place for dissent in future Marxist Leninist America. Here you can get popular like Daniel Ellsberg and filthy rich like Jane Fonda for being dissident… in future these people will be simply squashed like cockroaches. Nobody is going to pay them nothing for their beautiful noble ideas of equality. This they don’t understand and it will be greatest shock for them, of course.
The demoralization process in the United States is basically completed already. For the last 35 years – actually it’s over fulfilled, because the demoralization now reaches such areas where previously not even Comrade Andropov and all his experts would even dream of such a tremendous success. Most of it is done by Americans to Americans, thanks to lack of moral standards.
I mentioned before, exposure to true information does not matter anymore. A person who was demoralized is unable to assess true information. Facts tell nothing to him, even if I shower him with information, with authentic truth, with documents, with pictures… even if I take him by force to the Soviet Union and show him concentration camp, he will refuse to believe it. Until he is going to receive a kick in his fat bottom, when the military boot crushes him, then he will understand, but not before then. That is the tragedy of the situation of demoralization.
I’m not sure it’s recoverable, at this point, absent a cold hard dash of reality in the face. Which I believe is about to happen, as the natural consequences of the decisions that have been made, and are currently being made, take effect. Before the election, I referred to an Obama victory as Carter’s second term. In the last three months, I’ve begun to wish it was going to be that benign. But at this point, is there any alternative than to let the drunk-on-hopenchange crowd just endure the hangover they’re generating? At some point, doesn’t actual reality have to overcome?

At some point, doesn’t actual reality have to overcome?
I think you know the answer and I don’t think either of us very much like it.
The sad thing is that The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire pretty much telegraphs exactly what we see unfolding before us (at least to those of us that can still see and think) and, thanks to the blessing (now decidedly mixed) of modern technology, it’s happening in fast-forward.
I should also add, obviously, that this isn’t just a symptom of his out-of-his-deptheness in the WH (though he is a rather pestilent boil on the nation’s cancerous buttock), but has been ongoing, as noted in your post, for going on 40 years.
I wrestle with how concerned I need to be on this one. As a citizen I am concerned that the administration is steadily dynamiting every foundation of our once-great republic, and as a parent I’m horrified at the steady erosion of morality and of public safety.
As a Christian, though, I see that my ‘long-term’ citizenship is in heaven and that this nation is simply starting to see the consequences of turning its collective back on God. It’s interesting that Moses, the patriarchs, David, Solomon and the prophets all laid out the consequences for such action. Yet somehow we act surprised.
When these discussions come up, there are two approaches – the first is to invoke the old Air Force Academy motto: “When in danger or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout.”
My preferred approach is to take a step back and remember what Peter said a few millenia back:
I blogged about postmodernism as it applies to religion
here.
I hope this ok to post about. I basically asked whether logic applies to the claims made by different religions, and why so many people today think that it doesn’t.
