Railroaded Into Nationalized Health Care

That video has clips of more lengthy versions of each person’s story. Watch the rest at Faces of Government Healthcare.

Consider the IRS. And Homeland Security. And Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Think they’re doing a bang-up job? If not, then why would we want to turn over our health care to a similar group of people, who have even less incentive to help us than insurance companies? They, at least, have a financial motivation to keep their customers satisfied.

Health care is rationed. Right now, it’s rationed economically. But basic care and life-saving care is available to every human being who manages to set foot in this country, regardless of their ability to pay. Thanks to EMTALA, emergency rooms are required to help you. Thanks to hundreds of thousands of charity hospitals and clinics – via both charities and government – you can get free or sliding-scale payment care. Some people do fall through the cracks in this system, but overall it’s doing a really good job. Would you rather be told you can’t get treatment unless you pay (where at least you can try to get the money) or that you can’t get treatment because the government says so?

People quote misleading stats that “prove” how much more we spend than other countries, without telling how much more care we consume than other countries. People quote misleading stats that “prove” we’re doing a worse job of providing care without telling that we keep the statistics differently than other countries. People quote misleading statistics about how many are uninsured without telling that a big chunk of that number is young healthy people and middle class who choose to be uninsured, another big chunk is illegal aliens, and more are people who are transiently uninsured because they’re between jobs.

Dr. Wes has more on the GOP alternative to Obamacare. I am not enthused.

We’re being railroaded into a major change – nationalizing nearly 20% of our economy and drastically changing an important part of people’s lives – without Congress having a reasoned, serious discussion. It’s a disgrace.
