Reporter Calls Jesus An "Absolute Pacifist"

I was looking for something in some 2003 WH press conference transcripts and instead found this amusing exchange:

From a 2003 White House Press Conference
Q One question on that. You just said the President is a deeply religious man. Jesus Christ was an absolute pacifist. How does the President square his militarism with Jesus’ pacifism?
Q No, he wasn’t –
MR. FLEISCHER: I think there may be a debate in the press corps about your question. Russell, I –
Q How about the — at the temple with a whip, where he beat the hell out of those money-changers? Does that sound like he’s an absolute pacifist, Ari?

I guess it all depends what the meaning of “absolute pacifist” is. And I dearly love it when reporters snipe at each other for a change instead of the poor schmoe behind the podium. Good stuff.

[From Linkfest -

December 21 is Phileas Fogg Win-a-Wager Day. Probably only 15% of you are old enough to catch that reference, but it's my turn to post the linkfest so we're going with it anyway.

I get the reference - do you? Today's a good day to push the envelope a little - break up the routine. Maybe not in such an extreme fashion as Fogg did, but he was unbelievably wealthy and could afford to be a bit more reckless than the average clock watcher. Plus, he already had his passport. ;-) ]
