In addition to being moderately geeky at work and nerdy enough to build our own computers at home, my husband and I are space and science junkies, Trekkies (or if you’re a purist, Trekkers), sci-fi and fantasy readers and technology freaks. I seldom post about it, but I do actually read more than just the bible and political stuff. So… now for something completely different:
Cox users – prepare to be throttled. Which really ticks me off – I’m paying for the fastest possible connection – and it still isn’t fast enough – and if they slow me down one iota I’m going to make someone’s day very difficult. I get to thinking I’ve been kidnapped by Romulans and tricked into believing I have amnesia. (I would gladly pay more if I could get a faster connection; less at this price is not even an option.)
Obviously, Martians have taken our equipment to give it a good going-over, hence the failures to phone home and to record daily activities. There was a Trek episode like this where Riker and a bunch of others were taken from the Enterprise while they slept and more or less dissected alive. We’ve been looking for intelligent life out there for 150 years, but I’m thinking that search probably ought to begin at home.
Another step toward teleportation… University of Maryland and University of Michigan are quite a bit further along than Gene Roddenberry’s original glitter tubes.
If this malicious script had been run on Fannie Mae’s computers, it would have shut them down, causing millions in damage and reduced/shut down operations at FM for about a week. Letting the script run arguably would have been cheaper. And it’s a Kirk-approved procedure; at least, it worked for Eminiar.
Your scientific research taxpayer dollars at work… surfing porn. Remember the game Riker picked up on Raisa that almost allowed the Enterprise to be taken over? (No, there wasn’t any nudity, but please!… every time someone reached a new game level they acted like Meg Ryan in a restaurant. Ridiculous, and unnecessary.) Oddly enough, this offends me a lot less than the gubmint blowing it on AGW research, and given the vote yesterday for the “stimulus” we just might be better off paying these bozos to surf porn instead of thinking up ways to increase their budgets. And yes, I’m still virulently anti-porn.
And once again… stem cells good. ADULT stem cells, that is. Why are we blowing money killing babies (when not one treatment has been effective to date) when adult stem cell treatments are already working and changing lives? Christopher Pike would approve!

Hm… I call myself a Trekkie, but I’m not sure if having serious discussions re: a Vulcan Pope (that is, a Pope who is Vulcan– not a Pope of Vulcans) counts as geekdom or philosophy. ;^p
What’s your view?
