Since you ask…

From a comment on someone’s Facebook status:

Many people speak with forked tongue. How many complainers would give up their unemployment, Social Security, and Medicare?

It was a friend of an acquaintance – no one I know personally – or I’d have responded:

I’d give it up in a heartbeat if I could get back all the taxes I’ve put in, plus compounded interest. I can manage that money a good deal better than the government, thanks.

I’m in my 30s and, in a heartbeat, I’d give it all back and call it even! Now, that said, my father (in his 60s) would fight to the death to keep it, which is why politicians are terrified of touching any of it. (unlike people my age and younger, the oldsters will load you on a rocket and fire you into the sun if you dare pare back their bennies, let alone talk about doing away w/ ‘em.)

I’d trade in my share, and I’d say that all the oldsters ought to be punished for their foolish trust in socialism all these years, and for all their votes to keep this pyramid scheme alive during that time. When I get to be 80, I’ll say the same thing — although I probably won’t get the chance because Social Security probably won’t be around when I’m 80.

    Here’s hoping!
