Jihad Unspun translated this message from the Islamic State of Iraq:
It is apparent to every watchful eye that recent events over the past few days have exposed a huge crack in America’s administration. With weak declarations from their leaders about events on the ground in Iraq just two months after the so-called “Baghdad security plan” commenced and a growing dispute about funds spent on the Iraq and Afghan wars, the American command has now said “The current security plan is the last chance for the American army and the Maliki government”. As usual, this was followed by a swift visit by the new (American) Defense Minister “Gates” who said, “The American support to the Maliki government is not unlimited”, insinuating that the American administration is impatient with the Maliki government that is incapable of handling the strikes of the Mujahideen. This comes on the heels of an important statement by House Majority Leader Harry Reid who previously said, “The Iraqi war is hopeless and the situation in Iraq is same as it was in Vietnam.”
As Bryan at Hot Air wrote:
We never did find out who Tokyo Rose was, but we know who Harry Reid is. He’s the Senate Majority Leader, but after declaring the war lost and pledging not to listen to Gen. Patraeus’ updates, Reid isn’t fit to hold the office of dogcatcher. Censure would be too good for him. He’s demonstrably helping the enemy by giving them propaganda victories against our troops. He is demonstrably helping the enemy while our troops are in a shooting war. What Reid has done isn’t dissent, and it’s certainly not patriotic.
And about the famed Jefferson quote that “dissent is the highest form of patriotism”… first of all, that’s just stupid. Second, it was said by Howard Zinn, not Thomas Jefferson. Third, Thomas Jefferson actually said this about dissent:
“I fear [political difference] is inseparable from the different constitutions of the human mind and that degree of freedom which permits unrestrained expression. Political dissention is doubtless a less evil than the lethargy of despotism, but still it is a great evil, and it would be as worthy the efforts of the patriot as of the philosopher, to exclude its influence, if possible, from social life. The good are rare enough at best. There is no reason to subdivide them by artificial lines. But whether we shall ever be able so far to perfect the principles of society, as that political opinions shall, in its intercourse, be as inoffensive as those of philosophy, mechanics, or any other, may be well doubted.” –Thomas Jefferson to Thomas Pinckney, 1797. The truth is that terrorists have openly endorsed Democrats. The truth is that what Democrats are saying hurts the troops. The truth is that troops on the ground and active military commanders (not paid ex-generals on cable news or shilling for Democratic candidates) believe that we can – and must – win this war. The truth is that the Democratic leadership is holding their hands over their ears and singing “la la la” in order not to hear this, because losing this war will help them pick up Senate seats. They can’t afford to win the war because they can’t afford to lose their jobs, and their lies and hypocrisy – at the cost of our soldiers lives, and the lives of Iraqis who help them, are breathtaking.
