The Consistency of Democrats

Joseph Lieberman, in spite of the fact that I dislike almost every political position he has, will always have my admiration. He is a man of principles. He stands fast, regardless of public opinion, and he’s not afraid to say so. John McCain could take a page from Lieberman’s book. Partisanship aside, I’m proud to have a man like this in our Senate.

Some other Democrats are also being consistent, just not in a good way. Unsurprising. To those who say, “to the victor goes the spoils” I would suggest they remember what happened when the Republicans took over the House and Senate, and the demands that they bend over backwards to include Democrats – which they did, at the cost of infuriating the base who elected them. I hope those Republicans, especially the Gang of 14 members, have a good case of indigestion today. They appeased their political enemy, infuriated their allies, and it gained them nothing in the long run. It’s a good lesson when applied to larger issues, if only they had the wit to learn it.

The Anchoress has this story and a lot more, including more on “Jamil Hussein,” the Bergerizing of Rudy Giuliani’s campaign papers, and links to some good news about Iraq.

Is anyone keeping track of how many promises the Dems have broken before even taking over?* Here’s another one: “We’ll work with the GOP!” But we all knew that was a lie, right? Please tell me you knew it was a lie. They’ve done nothing but obstruct at every turn – they don’t know how to do otherwise. Even in power, they’re still obstructing. But they’re the party that is going to free us from the lockstep/goosestep nazi-totalitarian thing, right? Aren’t they? Although, let’s be fair. If the Dems were interested in consulting with the GOP, the GOP would likely mumble, “uh…whatever you guys want is fine…got pork?”

As to that last – I have to admit it… she’s right. Whether the Dems or the Repubs are in power, they still have that grease dripping down their chins. That seems to be the one consistent trait of all politicians.
