The Immigration Drinking Game

I know a lot of Christians believe drinking is strictly out of bounds. That’s not my understanding, although I believe drunkenness is sinful. (It’s not a salvation issue and I don’t want to debate it.) My frustration with illegal immigration has grown to the point that I’m finally developing a sense of humor about it, just to cope. Dark humor, true. Humor laced with despair, because I honestly believe that taking in 60 million new foreigners* is an astonishingly bad idea, and that the people promoting it do not have America’s best interests at heart.

I probably won’t do it, but I’m seriously considering having a drink each time the President uses the following terms (from John Derbyshire, with a hat tip to Polipundit):

jobs Americans won’t do
nation of immigrants
compassionate
family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande
good-hearted people
path to citizenship
my good friend Vicente Fox
this is not amnesty

True, I’d gain nothing but a pounding headache and a reminder that I should have cleaned the bathroom instead of writing this post. But some numbness would be nice, at this point. Why won’t the Republicans listen? Do they really want to concede the country to Democrats for decades to come? Aren’t the Americans who live at the border good-hearted people who deserve the compassion of their fellow citizens and elected officials? Don’t the President and Senate care that the path to citizenship for these honest hardworking good-hearted people their good friend Vicente Fox is sending over tramples over the rights of the people who are legally here now? Could the family values these politicians espouse at least be extended TO the Rio Grande so our American brothers and sisters are protected by them? Yes, a “comfortably numb” condition might just be the best way to watch the President’s address.

*60 million! Has Laura lost her mind, you say? No. Here’s why:

What is often lost in the discussion of the 12 million illegal aliens, is the provision being contemplated for bringing in up to 4 relatives each to live with the newly green carded. (if any of you think they are going to stop with just 4, I have some nice land down here in Tucson I would love to talk with you about)

For a total of approximately 60 million people. ……. With the sweep of a pen.

This is a large number and we have taken the opportunity to present the impact such a sweeping piece of legislation would have instantly on the demographics of the United States of America.

Still think this isn’t a big deal? According to the 2000 census, the figure of 60 million brand new residents is equivalent to the entire current state populations of the following states:

Alabama – 4,351,999 …..Alaska – 614,010 ……Arizona – 4,668,631 …..Arkansas – 2,538,303 …….Colorado – 3,970,971.…… Connecticut – 3,274,069 ……..Delaware – 743,603 ……..Hawaii – 1,193,001 …….Idaho – 1,228,684 ……..Iowa – 2,862,447 ………Kansas – 2,629,067 …….Kentucky – 3,936,499 ……..Maine – 1,244,250 ……..Maryland – 5,134,808 …….
Mississippi – 2,752,092 ……Missouri – 5,438,559 ………Montana – 880,453
Nebraska – 1,662,719 ………Nevada – 1,746,898 ………New Hampshire
1,185,048 ……..New Mexico……..1,736,931 …….North Dakota
638,244 …….South Dakota…..738,171 …..Vermont
590,883 …..and the District of Columbia….523,124

TOTAL

56.3 Million

[Update: I should have read Polipundit's comments on that post before posting this - several commenters also suggested a drinking game. Well, if I do it, at least I won't be drinking alone.]

Gosh! I knew we had lots of illegals in AL, but I didn’t realize that we were ranked among the highest in numbers!

It’s not just republicans and conservatives. IF the republicans were talking against this, then the Democrats would be for it. It’s all a political game! They all want the votes, and that’s why nothing is being done!

His ‘good friend Vicente Fox’ has the President fooled, or the President uses the term loosely! He is no friend of America! He has us where he wants us – sending this poor to America so he won’t have to give up the money to take care of them. I read a post by an American who was sent there for a job, and he talked about what you have to go through there in order to be a guest worker – nothing like we are putting these illegals through. You have only so long there, and, even while waiting on your papers, you are considered breaking the law. AND, they frown upon that. So, why are we being so lax in enforcing our OWN laws?

  2. Laura says:

That’s not the number of illegals in AL, that’s the population of the state. The writer of the article was trying to make the point that allowing 12-20 million illegal immigrants to “regularize” their status, plus four relatives apiece would mean adding to our country the equivalent of all those states. Not to mention their relatives will then be able to bring in more relatives. That is a LOT of people to assimilate. As it is now, we are assimilating to them, not the other way around. (For English, press 1…)

Illegal Immigration Is Driving Us To Drink And Change Political Parties…

Republicans and conservatives are mad, really mad. The people we voted into congress don’t seem to remember that they are there to DO OUR WILL, to VOTE as we want them to. They WORK FOR US, not the other way…
