They'll Scream Like A Goth In The Sun

Tim Blair just whacked a lot of people with their own cudgels. But #10 is the best, just for the phrase, “scream like a goth in the sun.” I absolutely love it. This is why Tim Blair is in my RSS reader; I don’t want to miss a single post.

We all know people whose passionate beliefs stand in direct opposition to their other passionate beliefs. Here’s a handy list of 30 contradictory concepts.

1 The same people who claim to worry most about future generations surviving climate change have no objections at all to abortion – which kills thousands of future Australians every year.

Scream like a goth in the sun! Oh, yeah. That’s going right up there with Pretty Vicious Rants and Important Action Alerts.

Blair’s list is excellent, and he did not neglect his own hypocrisy – that’s #30. Of course, people of all political stripes are subject to this phenomenon. Scott Adams from The Dilbert Blog has several excellent posts on copyright violations (Is Copyright Violation Stealing?, Find the Cognitive Dissonance and The Butler’s Dilemma) where people who would not normally dream of shoplifting, pickpocketing, or embezzling, somehow rationalize that’s it’s okay to steal other people’s work product, and scream about it when challenged. They scream like Snoop Dogg when his misogynistic, hateful lyrics are compared to Imus’ momentary idiocy. They scream like… a goth in the sun.
