Tip o’ the Day: If you need a whiteboard, visit Home Depot, not Office Depot.
I have two big web applications to build, and I find it’s easiest to map them out on whiteboard, instead of on paper. But my current whiteboard is much too small. I remembered setting up a new computer lab during my brief teaching stint, and the school made a whiteboard out of something they bought from Home Depot. The administrator was a frugal guy and said it was a lot cheaper. So I took a little field trip to Home Depot today to see if I could find it. With the help of a guy from the pro desk, I found a sheet of “Thrifty White Tileboard” from Eucatex. It is melamine finished tilepanel, or tileboard, and is commonly used in bathrooms. It is 48″ x 96″ and costs a low, low $11.94 including tax instead of about $230. I have to frame it myself, but somehow I think that’ll cost less than $200.
