War Reporting Redux

The variety of headlines used for the same article is interesting:

In one Iraqi neighborhood, US troops find al-Qaida dug deep
The Northwest Florida Daily News, FL – May 3, 2007

US Troops Find Al-Qaida Dug Deep
Military.com – May 4, 2007

Al-Qaida ousted from one Iraqi district
Houston Chronicle, TX – May 3, 2007

In Baqubah, troops find al-Qaida dug deep
AirForceTimes.com, VA – May 3, 2007

Regard of what headline was used, the last paragraph is very interesting:

Al-Qaida “had months and months to run rampant because we didn’t have the forces available to come in here until now,” Parsons said. “They controlled this neighborhood, but they don’t anymore.”

Two items: 1) Yes, Iraq is where we are currently fighting al Qaeda. While we could redeploy and wait for them to follow us, since we’re already there, we might as well save ourselves the money of redeployment, as well as deny them a base country in which to rebuild. 2) The surge, so far, is working. In fact it’s working so well that the MSM is finally reporting what people who read milblogs have known for months.

The LA Times is the latest to jump on that bandwagon, as seen at Patterico’s. Democratic leaders read these stories and tremble. It’s becoming more and more clear that they picked the wrong side. More shrieking from Murtha in 3… 2…
