As I observe the increasing influence of Islam, and the increasing dhimmitude of the media and governments of the west, I was becoming increasingly discouraged.
The idea that somehow we are now subject to Islamic law – which is the only rational reason we would obey it and avoid displaying pictures of Muhammad, for example – has become generally accepted under the guise of multiculturalism. People don’t call it that, of course. They say they are being “sensitive” and that they don’t wish to “offend.” If the Jews suddenly rose up and demanded that we no longer write “God” but instead “G-d” there would be an uproar. If the Catholics demanded we make the sign of the cross, or the Baptists that we pray in the name of Jesus, or the Buddhists that we comply with the Vinaya Pitaka there would be outrage and a fight for religious freedom. We would reply incredulously, “You are free to believe that and live like it but I don’t and I won’t.” But when a pack of murderers and those who support them make the demand, we are filled with a desire to be sensitive.
Because the west now treasures life more than freedom, worldwide there is one example after another where the Wahhabi sect of Islam is demanding and receiving obeisance and cooperation. Just in the last few weeks:
In Chechnya, non-Islamic women are now wearing headscarves. An American college professor – IN America – censored for showing the Dread Cartoons of Blasphemy. Google censors just about everybody, it seems, but radical Islamists. The EU considers whether or not to implement blasphemy laws. A satire festival in Spain purposely avoids offending Muslims – and only Muslims. Our public schools allow Islamic proselytization. Mark Steyn is shut out (scroll down…) of the British press because of his strongly stated views on Islam. The Telegraph took down an article on how Sharia law may soon be implemented in England “due to legal reasons.” Here’s the cached article. Yale fights to keep the military out while letting the Taliban in. Former president Jimmy Carter panders to terrorists every chance he gets.
On a positive note, there may be a backlash in Indonesia where Islamists are pushing for sharia law.
As a society we did not stand up for Salman Rushdie, who still lives under a death threat. Or Theo Van Gogh, murdered on the street in the name of Allah. And so far we have not stood up in defense of Ayaan Hirsi Ali or the Danish cartoonists who all live with bounties on their heads. All these people have the right to not obey Islamic law. But their rights are dismissed in favor of being sensitive to their oppressors. How much more will it take?
I finally remembered that it doesn’t matter. Are we at war with Islam – at least, a sect of Islam? Obviously. Do we have the political will to win? Maybe not. We are undermined from within and a house divided against itself cannot stand now any more than it could in Lincoln’s day. It still doesn’t matter. If we do lose this war we will finally be on an equal footing with our brothers and sisters who have been undergoing persecution for decades. In China and North Korea, the church has grown exponentially, and if we are persecuted, it will grow here too. What is good for my country is not necessarily good for the Kingdom where my true citizenship lies. I need to remember that.
Nothing is as wonderful as knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have given up everything else and count it all as garbage. All I want is Christ and to know that I belong to him. I could not make myself acceptable to God by obeying the Law of Moses. God accepted me simply because of my faith in Christ. All I want is to know Christ and the power that raised him to life. I want to suffer and die as he did, so that somehow I also may be raised to life. I have not yet reached my goal, and I am not perfect. But Christ has taken hold of me. So I keep on running and struggling to take hold of the prize. My friends, I don’t feel that I have already arrived. But I forget what is behind, and I struggle for what is ahead. I run toward the goal, so that I can win the prize of being called to heaven. This is the prize that God offers because of what Christ Jesus has done. All of us who are mature should think in this same way. And if any of you think differently, God will make it clear to you. But we must keep going in the direction that we are now headed. My friends, I want you to follow my example and learn from others who closely follow the example we set for you. I often warned you that many people are living as enemies of the cross of Christ. And now with tears in my eyes, I warn you again that they are headed for hell! They worship their stomachs and brag about the disgusting things they do. All they can think about are the things of this world. But we are citizens of heaven and are eagerly waiting for our Savior to come from there. Our Lord Jesus Christ has power over everything, and he will make these poor bodies of ours like his own glorious body.
(Philippians 3:8-21)

Dear Laura,
Thank you for publishing Biblical truth boldly, and clearly. I read your blog every day and am blessed and encouraged to intercede for the concerns the Lord enables you to express so well. Today’s blog is so powerful and true, I don’t even know how to comment, except YES! It makes me want to go directly to the prayer closet! Lord, have mercy upon us!
See you tomorrow, Lord willing.
Charlotte
Thank you for the encouragement!
Laura…excellent exposition! I have had many thoughts along those lines but never had an idea on how to frame my thoughts to blog about them. You have summed things up marvelously!
