What's in a name?

I’ve posted probably half a dozen times over the last couple of years that I’m increasingly unhappy with the name of this blog.  When I first started this blog in 2004 it was almost exclusively bible studies and devotions.  And I began to acquire readers, which was exciting, but began to be a bit scary – I am not called to preach or teach and I don’t want that responsibility.

So I began writing on other matters and phasing out theology.  My perspective includes my faith – it is the most important factor in forming my opinions (and when it’s not it should be) so Christianity has been present but more in the sense of me working things out in my own life rather than dishing out hermeneutics.

In that sense, Pursuing Holiness remains a perfectly appropriate blog name.  I am still pursuing holiness in my daily life.  There have been major events in the last 18 months in my family that have impacted that pursuit… but for the sake of my family’s privacy, I can’t write about that.  So I’ve increasingly turned to politics as a topic, to the point that I began I feel a bit dishonest, sporting an overtly Christian name on a blog that delves into faith topics less and less.

I finally bought another domain name – GOP Refugee.com – which reflects the political wilderness I’ve been in for some time as a conservative who is fed up with the GOP’s big-government ways.  Either that or the original blog url will get you here.  The header image also reflects the new name.  So… just wanted to officially announce that change.

America still needs to pursue holiness!!

So who’s stopping? My sanctification continues apace… but I’ve been talking about it so much less I just felt I need to realign the blog name accordingly.

  3. Drew says:

My point was simply that conservatism sanctifies America, such that the name was appropriate regardless of how much explicitly you talked about God.

I love the Pursuing Holiness name. Though GOP Refugee does have a nice ring. =P Nice job balancing the two in the header =P

I picked “Truth Before Dishonor” because that’s what I believe above everything else. And since there is no Truth but one…

But I spend the vast majority of my time in politics. It don’t change nuttin. Truth is truth. The closer to absolute Truth you get, the closer to Providence you get. And the more holy you become.

Just because you’ve gone heavily political does not mean you have shirked your public manifestations of your pursuit. Politics and religion: two things you should never talk about and two things I always talk about and two things that are hopelessly entertwined until the end-times.

Keep the name and the dual-header. Use both sites as mirrors of each other, and keep that rudder on your ship firmly fastened.

    Thanks, Klinger, John, much appreciated.
