No, I’m really not kidding. I may not have the cash on hand to take a trip when he finally departs this mortal coil to roast for all eternity, but right now, as I write this, I’m being perfectly serious. And if they start any crap with me, I’ll sue them. I think treating the Phelps family to a taste of what they’ve been dishing out to others is a really good idea.
Who’s up for it?

hmm, I might be up for it
Hold up signs saying something like “There is nothing God cannot forgive– but DANG you give him a run for his money!”
Laura…While I can understand and empathize with the sentiment, as those who want to manifest our Lord, should we fall into the same behavior which we despise?
Jim, I started to reply to your thought-provoking comment, but it turned out I had so much to say it was better placed in a post: http://pursuingholiness.com/2010/04/picketing-fred-phelps-funeral/
I would be all for organizing a big-ass gay pride parade to circle this funeral.
I have a mean streak wide enough to really enjoy imagining the look on Shirley Phelps’ face as she tries to bury her father, surrounded by hundreds of tranny protesters. But that’s more like vengeance, not a teachable moment – at least as far as my motives go.
Oh, and from the post linked upthread, responding to Jim – “And I agree with Jim’s sentiment that returning like for like is not appropriate. Any Christians who picket a Phelps funeral should prayerfully consider what we put on any signs. But I do think we need to start responding a lot more forcefully to them, and picketing one of their funerals would certainly be one way to do it.” So with regard to my motives…. I obviously still have some praying to do.
He and his family deserves it. They’ve disrupted the funerals of dozens of grieving families. Besides, their lot face a fate worse than any of that anyway.
Laura, if you do not have money for picketing, I will give you some.
This scum (Westboro church) deserves their funeral to be picketed.
Fred is 80, pretty soon he will be a corpse. We should be organized now.
